Nose aesthetics (rhinoplasty) is a surgical application performed to change the shape, size or structure of the nose within the scope of plastic surgery. Rhinoplasty is applied not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for situations such as breathing problems experienced by some people. Some patients may prefer to have aesthetics while eliminating their breathing problems. After the agreement between the doctor and the patient, plans for the surgery are made and the date of implementation is determined. For the application of rhinoplasty, the patient is expected to have completed a certain physical development. Generally, these procedures are not applied to adolescent and pediatric patients. If individuals aged 18 and over are not in a developmental period, it is agreed to be applied with the decision of the doctor and experts.

You can answer your questions about rhinoplasty under the following headings:

  • What is rhinoplasty?

  • What are the rhinoplasty application methods?

What is Nose Aesthetics (Rhinoplasty)?

It is called rhinoplasty when patients consult a doctor due to breathing problems or for different reasons and make changes in the visible shape of the nose. Rhinoplasty is performed by applying surgical procedures directly to the internal structure of the nose without touching the external structure of the nose. It is difficult to observe any incision from the outside after the surgery. Swelling may occur only in the patient's nose and under the eyes. For this, regular cold application will be required.

How is Nose Aesthetics Performed?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical operation that takes approximately 1-2 hours under general anesthesia. Although the stages of rhinoplasty are generally similar for each patient, the desired aesthetic procedures for the nose may differ. For this reason, it is acted in accordance with the demands and the needs of the patient. In general, rhinoplasty surgery includes the following stages:

  • 1. The patient is first examined. In order to better understand the patient's nose structure, especially during the examination, a photograph is requested as well as an X-ray. Applications to be made with reference to professional photographs are designed during the examination.
  • 2. It becomes clear whether the patient wants the operation only because of aesthetic or breathing problems. Accordingly, the surgical plan is completed.
  • 3. The doctor gives the patient a time on the date and time. The patient is expected to be hospitalized 1 night before.
  • 4. The patient does not eat or drink anything for a certain period of time the day before the surgery.
  • 5. At the time of the operation, the patient is taken to the operating room. General anesthesia is applied.
  • 6. The surgeon changes the internal structure of the nose in accordance with the surgical plan. Adjusts its size and shape.
  • 7. Before the end of the operation, support can be given with a nosepiece or bandages to protect the changed structure of the nose.
  • 8. Stitches are placed at the beginning of the nose in the upper part of the lip. Since it is an aesthetic suture, it is usually not noticed from the outside.
  • 9. The surgery is finished after these stages. It is recommended to keep the patient under observation for 1 night. Especially in the first month, it is important not to lean forward, to walk with support and to sleep upright.
  • 10. In 1-2 weeks, the sutures and the tampons in the nose are removed and the patient is fully healed. The new shape of the nose will begin to settle after the first few months.

What are the Rhinoplasty Application Methods?

Nose aesthetics covers surgical procedures developed to eliminate the problems experienced by patients. There are different application methods in rhinoplasty. To get to know these methods better and have more information, you can follow the titles below:

Closed endonasal rhinoplasty (closed rhinoplasty)

In this method, which is performed by opening small holes through the nose, the internal structure of the nose is changed and the shape and size of the nose are changed. The healing process is fast and there is usually no trace of surgery.

Septorhinoplasty

Septorhinoplasty is a method applied to people with nasal curvature. Due to this method, patients may have difficulty in breathing. Both aesthetic and breathing problems are solved in a single operation.

Osteotomy

Osteotomy is a nasal aesthetic surgery method that is performed by breaking the nasal bones and reshaping them. This procedure is applied when there is irregularity in the nasal bones of the patients.

Alarplasty

Alarplasty application allows the nose to have a more symmetrical structure and also relieves nasal congestion to a large extent. For this procedure, some skin is removed from the nose wings. This procedure can be applied to people who have had rhinoplasty before and are not satisfied. It is also suitable for people whose nose is damaged as a result of accident.

External Rhinoplasty

External rhinoplasty is an application in which the size and shape of the nose are changed by making an incision on the outer surface of the nose.
