What Is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
Rhinoplasty is surgical reshaping of the nose to improve its aesthetic appearance, functional breathing, or both. It is one of the most technically demanding operations in all of aesthetic surgery, requiring a surgeon with both exceptional technical skill and an artistic eye for facial harmony. At FitAndFit Clinic in Istanbul, our rhinoplasty specialists have performed over 10,000 rhinoplasty procedures and are recognised internationally for natural-looking, ethnicity-sensitive results.
What Can Rhinoplasty Correct?
- Dorsal hump reduction: Smoothing a bump or hook on the nose bridge
- Tip refinement: Narrowing, defining, lifting, or deprojecting a bulbous, drooping, or overprotecting tip
- Bridge augmentation: Building up a flat or saddle-shaped bridge (common in Asian and Middle Eastern rhinoplasty)
- Nostril reshaping: Reducing nostril width (alarplasty) or improving nostril asymmetry
- Crooked nose correction: Straightening a deviated external nose
- Breathing improvement: Correcting a deviated septum (septorhinoplasty) or nasal valve collapse
- Revision rhinoplasty: Correcting unsatisfactory results from a previous surgery
Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
Our surgeons offer both approaches, selected based on the complexity of the changes required:
- Open rhinoplasty: A small incision across the columella (the strip between the nostrils) provides direct visualisation of the entire nasal structure. Preferred for complex cases, tip work, and revision procedures. The columellar scar is virtually invisible once healed.
- Closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty: All incisions inside the nostrils — no external scars. Suitable for less complex changes with shorter recovery time.
Preservation Rhinoplasty
FitAndFit Clinic surgeons are trained in preservation rhinoplasty — a modern, less destructive approach that preserves the native cartilage and skin envelope rather than resecting and reconstructing. This technique produces more natural movement, lower revision rates, and a more predictable long-term result, and is now the preferred approach for appropriate candidates.
Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline
A nasal splint is worn for 7–10 days after surgery. Most swelling resolves within 4–6 weeks, allowing patients to return to social activities. However, the final result — particularly the tip definition — can take 12–18 months to fully emerge as residual swelling gradually subsides. Most patients return to work within 7–14 days.
